How the Program Grew
A Vision for a Greener Lodi
The Shade Tree Program was founded on the belief that every Lodi resident deserved access to the cooling benefits of mature trees. Community leaders and arborists came together to launch a pilot program offering free trees to homeowners willing to plant and care for them.
TreeLodi & Lodi Electric Join Forces
A formal partnership between TreeLodi and Lodi Electric transformed the program. Lodi Electric recognized the direct link between strategically placed shade trees and reduced residential energy consumption, making the utility a natural program sponsor and co-organizer.
Arborist Consultations Added
To improve tree survival rates and maximize energy savings, the program added free on-site arborist consultations. Certified professionals now visit each home to recommend species and optimal planting locations based on sun exposure and property layout.
A Thriving Community Canopy
The program continues to grow, bringing free trees, stakes, and ties directly to Lodi residents' doorsteps. Each new tree contributes to a denser urban canopy — cleaner air, cooler streets, and lower energy bills across the city.
